Daffodils are classic spring flowers that bring bright, cheerful colour to any garden. As a gardening expert, I recommend growing daffodils for their easy care and reliable blooms year after year.
Choosing the Right Bulbs
Select healthy, firm bulbs from a reputable supplier. Larger bulbs usually produce stronger flowers.
Planting Time and Location
Plant daffodil bulbs in the autumn, ideally between September and November, before the first frost. Choose a spot with well-drained soil and full or partial sun.
Planting Depth and Spacing
Plant bulbs about 15cm (6 inches) deep and space them 10–15cm apart. This allows room for growth and good air circulation.
Care and Maintenance
Water the bulbs after planting to help them settle. In spring, ensure they get enough moisture as shoots develop. After flowering, allow the leaves to die back naturally to feed the bulb for next year’s growth.
Pests and Problems
Daffodils are generally pest-resistant but watch out for bulb rot in poorly drained soils. Avoid cutting leaves too early, as it weakens future blooms.
Growing daffodils adds vibrant yellow and white flowers to your garden with minimal effort, making them perfect for both beginner and experienced gardeners.
